Yasmin Jessie Duarte commonly known as Jessie Duarte was born on September 1953 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
She is a South African politician, an ambassador and an activist. She is also the acting Secretary General of the African National Congress.

As a politician, served in many political positions including a special assistant to Nelson Mandela, a member of the Cabinet, ambassador to Mozambique, communicator for the African National Congress and Deputy Secretary General of the party.

Jessie was born to Ebrahim Dangor, her father and Julie Dangor, her mother. She completed her Standard Ten at the Coronationville Secondary School while attending school in Coronationville, Johannesburg, Transvaal.

Management accounting was the field in which Duarte first practised.

She passed away surviving her two children who she had with her ex-husband John Duarte. They divorced in 2001.
