This unfortunate incident happened on 17 July 2022 in Johannesburg, Gauteng in South Africa. The 68-year-old deceased politician was born on 19 September 1953 in Johannesburg, Transvaal, Union of South Africa.
Jessie Duarte was the acting secretary general of the African National Congress from 3 May 2021 until her death on 17 July 2022.
She also served as a special assistant to the late former president Nelson Mandela. She was also known to be an anti-apartheid activist.

According to sources, Jessie Duarte died as a result of cancer. Prior to her death, she was granted sick leave by the African National Congress as she receives medical care. Later in the year, it was speculated that she had died but she released a statement that she was still alive but battling cancer.
