Jim Redmond, who was the eldest of eight children and was born in Trinidad, arrived in Britain for the first time at the age of 14 to visit family in North London. However, in 1985, Jim reached a crossroads in his life and decided to start his own business, J Redmond & Son, under his full control. In March 1986, the company officially launched with a small operational factory in Northampton, and after learning of the demise of G B Food Machinery, which had recently gone into voluntary liquidation, Jim Redmond took over various machinery agencies, including Inject Star and Bastra, and the company enjoyed substantial and rapid growth with a high profile.
