Jimmy Collins (January 16, 1870) was a professional baseball player in the United States. Jimmy spent 14 years in Major League Baseball. In 1945, Collins was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Collins’ defence earned him a lot of respect. Jimmy Collins is regarded as a pioneer of the modern defensive play of a third baseman and is best known for his ability to field a bunt (before his debut, the shortstop was the one who fielded bunts down the third base line). In terms of putouts by a third baseman, Jimmy Collins is Brooks Robinson’s closest competitor as of 2012. Collins’ career stats at the plate included 65 home runs, 1055 runs scored, 983 RBI, and a batting average of.294 overall.
Collins was also the first manager of the Boston Red Sox, then known as the Boston Americans. Collins was the winning manager in the first-ever World Series, as Boston defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates five games to three in 1903.
