The Cincinnati Bengals selected Mixon in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft (48th overall). In the running back draft that year, he was chosen in the fourth round. Mixon participated in basketball and football while attending Freedom High School. Some experts and scouts considered Mixon to be a first-round prospect coming out of college, but because of his past, they predicted that he would be chosen in the third or fourth round.
