Selwood had to wear leg splints as a toddler to assist in his recovery from a walking impairment. But his condition did not stop him from achieving what he always wanted. Selwood showed early promise as an athlete. His parents were always there to support him from his very early childhood.

Joel held every racing and jumping record at the Bendigo Sports Centre in a single year, with the exception of the 100-meter sprint, and he was the state hurdling champion from under-10s to under-15s.

Similarly, the football player kicked three goals in his first competitive football game at age eight against kids four years older than him. Selwood attended Bendigo’s Catholic College.

The AFL player began playing football with St Therese’s Maroon and spent most of his junior years with the Sandhurst Football Club before being selected to represent the Bendigo Pioneers in the TAC Cup tournament in 2005.

The older Selwood played in West Coast’s 2006 premiership victory over Sydney, switching between defensive and midfield positions, and he also represented Australia in the 2008 International Rules Series matchup against Ireland. After playing 187 games for the team, he announced his retirement at the end of the 2013 campaign.

Adam was born on May 1st, 1984, and is currently 38 years old. He is four years older than his brother, Joel, and has played 187 games for the West Coast Eagles. He has always been an inspiration to Joel.

Troy was selected from Sandhurst as the 19th overall draft pick in the 2002 AFL Draft. In Round 1 of 2005, against St. Kilda, he made his debut for the Brisbane Lions, sporting the number 28 guernsey. Selwood was frequently used in a tagging role on important opponents due to his endurance and responsible style of play.

On May 9, 2009, he collided with Richmond’s Alex Rance and was rendered unconscious. The Brisbane Lions informed Selwood that he would be removed after the 2010 campaign after Round 21.

Likewise, he also served as captain of the Victorian Football League (VFL) squad for the Geelong Football Club for two years in a time period from 2011 to 2013.
