He pursued his education at Hurlstone Agricultural High School and Bowral High School. He was a poultry farmer before obtaining his Bachelor of Arts from the University of New England in Armidale in 1967.

Australian economist and Labor Party official Kerin passed away on March 28, 2023, at the age of 85. John Kerin ended up serving two terms in the House of Representatives, from 1972 to 1975 and 1978 to 1993, throughout his political career.

During the Hawke and Keating administrations, John Kerin served in a number of significant ministerial positions. For six months, he was Australia’s treasurer. For eight years, he served as the minister of primary industries and energy.

After leaving the parliament in 1993, Kerin was offered a significant position within the Australian Meat and Livestock Corporation. Additionally, he joined a number of boards for different businesses and organizations. While living in Australia, Kerin continued to be involved in a number of public policy concerns.
