Manziel, a dual-threat quarterback who was highly recruited out of high school, made his Texas A&M Aggies debut in Kevin Sumlin’s Air Raid offense in 2012, during A&M’s first season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
One of the many NCAA Division I FBS and SEC records that Johnathan Paul Manziel broke was becoming the first freshman and sixth athlete in NCAA history to pass and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season.
He became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, Manning Award, and Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award at the conclusion of the regular season.
Manziel made the most of his redshirt freshman year by defeating Oklahoma 41-13 in the Cotton Bowl. In the 2014 NFL Draft, the Browns selected Manziel with the 22nd overall choice.
