The joker was created and planned for an intended purpose. But, although the Joker was planned to be killed off in his first appearance, the character got vindicated by editorial intervention. This allowed the Joker character to endure as the archenemy of the superhero named Batman.

The Joker character was created to possess no superhuman abilities. Rather, he uses his expertise in chemical engineering to develop poisonous concoctions and thematic weaponry.
