Jonathan Taylor (born January 19, 1999) is an American football running back for the National Football League’s Indianapolis Colts (NFL). Taylor attended Salem High School, where he set the New Jersey state rushing yards record. Jonathan played collegiate football at Wisconsin, where he finished his career as the NCAA’s sixth all-time leading rusher and the first player in history to dash for more than 6,000 yards in any three-year stretch. Taylor finished three times in the top ten of Heisman Trophy voting. Following the 2018 and 2019 seasons, he was selected as a unanimous first-team All-American and the Doak Walker Award, which is given to the best running back in college football. The Colts selected Taylor with the 41st pick in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Taylor led the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns with the Colts in 2021, becoming a unanimous All-Pro and Pro Bowler in the same season.
Taylor began his freshman year at Wisconsin as one of the team’s starting running backs after fall camp, with Shaw and James. Taylor carried for 87 yards and a touchdown on nine carries in his first career game against Utah State. In his second game, he carried for 223 yards and three touchdowns against Florida Atlantic. Taylor entered the Heisman Trophy conversation after rushing for 249 yards against Nebraska in the fifth game of the season, and he was consistently named among the top-five Heisman candidates.
