Tewson had appearances in the British television sitcom Shelley during the course of her career as a theater and television actress, in which she played Edna Hawkins, also known as Mrs. H.

She was chosen to play Elizabeth “Liz” Warden in Keeping Up Appearances. From 1990 until 1995, Keeping Up Appearances aired on television. In the 2003–2010 television series Last of the Summer Wine, Tewson also portrayed Miss Davenport.
