Kay Mellor born on May 11, 1951, was an English actress, scriptwriter, and director. She was known for creating television shows such as ITV British drama Fat Friends (2000–05), as well as co-creating CITV’s British children’s drama Children’s Ward in a space of 11 years.

Kay Mellor was born to Dinah, a Jewish mother and George, a Catholic father. Mellor became pregnant at a very young age, 16 and married Anthony Mellor, the child’s father, when he was 17.

Kay and Anthony Mellor have two daughters including television producer Yvonne Francas and actress Gaynor Faye who have 3 years between them.

Despite her early days of childbirth, she defy the odds and went on to Bretton Hall College and graduated with a BA Hons degree in 1983.

Mellor won the BAFTA Dennis Potter Award for Outstanding Television Writing in 1997.
