The English actress was born on May 11, 1951, in Leeds, Yorkshire, England. She attended Bretton Hall College and graduated with a BA Hons degree in 1983.
In 1989, Mellor contributed to the Channel 4 soap Brookside by writing numerous episodes.
She went on to write for the anthology drama series Dramarama before collaborating with her Coronation Street co-star Paul Abbott to co-create the long-running children’s drama Children’s Ward in 1988.
At the 1997 BAFTA Awards, the series was named Best Children’s Drama.
Mellor starred in her own adaptation of Jane Eyre, which was released in 1997, as part of her television career.
