Granson was raised in Austin, Texas, where he attended Westlake High School. He was born in DeMotte, Indiana. As a senior, Granson was selected to the second team for District 14-6A. Despite not being highly recruited, he chose Rice over an offer from Harvard to play college football.
As a wide receiver for the Rice Owls, Granson started his collegiate career. In his rookie season, he hauled in 33 catches for 381 yards and two touchdowns, and in his second campaign, he grabbed 18 passes for 241 yards.
At the 127th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected Granson. On May 19, 2021, he committed to Indianapolis for the first four years of his professional career.
