Kyrie Irving (born March 23, 1992) is a professional American basketball player in the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
He was named the Rookie of the Year after being named by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of selection in the 2011 NBA Draft.
A seven-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA team member, he won the NBA Championship at the Cavaliers in 2016.
Irving played college basketball at Duke Blue Devils before joining the Cavaliers in 2011. He won the 2014 All-Star Game Award for Best Player (MVP).
At the 2016 NBA Finals, Irving won a three-point field goal and completed the Cavaliers’ historic comeback against the Golden State Warriors.
After re-entering 2017 final, Irving requested a trade and was handed out to the Boston Celtics. He played for two seasons as a Celtic before signing as a free agent for Brooklyn Nets in 2019.
He also played for the US national team, which won the gold medal at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
In February 2020, he was elected Vice President of the National Basketball Players Association to replace Pau Gasol.
He is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux and an active Lakota philanthropist in the settlement.
