Reginald Lamar Cox, often known as M Lamar, is an American composer, singer, and artist who was born on May 29, 1972. Operatic countertenor and pianist Reginald Lamar also creates work that combines performance, installation, art, and cinema.

In his youth, Reginald Lamar Cox sang as a soprano in the choir of his church. He was born in Mobile, Alabama[8]. Prior to leaving Yale to concentrate on his musical career, Reginald studied sculpture at Yale and painting at the San Francisco Art Institute. Reginald principally came to New York to work with founder and lead soprano of La Gran Scena Opera Company Ira Siff on his vocal technique.

Lamar took part in an open discussion with authors bell hooks, Marci Blackman, and Samuel R. Delany in 2014 as part of hooks’ work as scholar-in-residence at The New School. The discussion was titled “Transgressive Sexual Practice.” Reginald has credited Diamanda Galás’s Plague Mass as well as the works of authors like Henry Hooks and Toni Morrison as sources of inspiration for his writing.
