Leonid Shvartsman was born in Minsk, Belarussian SSR, on August 30, 1920. He is a filmmaker and art director best known for his work on the films Unprecedented, Unheard, How the Camel and the Donkey Went to School, Garland Made of Kids and many others.

He worked as the art director on many cartoons, including Cheburashka, 38 Parrots, The Golden Antelope, The Scarlet Flower, and The Snow Queen.

In recognition of Schwartzman’s significant contribution to the advancement of Russian culture, Russian President Putin awarded him the Order of Alexander Nevsky.

On his 100th birthday, Russian President Vladimir Putin celebrated with him and later said, “Over the years of your creativity, you have created wonderful illustrations for children’s books, and most importantly, a rich gallery of famous cartoon characters, whom viewers of all generations know and sincerely love today,”

The former Belarusian artist and animation director was never diagnosed with a particular illness. His cause of death is however unknown till now. He passed away on July 2, 2022, at the age of 101.
