Duncan Lindsay Biography

Lindsay Duncan (full name Lindsay Vere Duncan) is a British actress born in Edinburgh, Scotland. She has won two Olivier Awards on stage, a Tony Award for her Private Lives performance and a Tony Award nomination for her role in Les Liaisons Dangereuses, and also for her role of the barbed theater critic Tabitha Dickinson in the film ‘Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)’.

The actress has shown her talent in movies, television shows, and theater productions and has received numerous awards along the way. She was appointed as the ‘ Commander of the British Empire Order ‘ in the ‘ 2009 Birthday Honors ‘ for her memorable drama services.

Lindsay Duncan was introduced to the theater through her school productions. She enrolled in London’s Central School of Speech and Drama in 1971. She later worked for her Equity card in the summer weekly rep in Southwold.

She joined the Royal Exchange Theater in Manchester in 1976 when it opened to appear in its very first productions. She performed in Manchester in eight plays in the following two years. She came back to London in 1978, where she performed at the Royal National Theater in David Hare’s’ Plenty.’

She got her first major role in the 1985 movie ‘Loose Connections’ while simultaneously featuring in many television productions. In 1985, for the production of ‘Troilus and Cressida’, she joined the Royal Shakespeare Company where she met her future husband Hilton McRae as a co-star. She also appeared as Marquise de Merteuil in Christopher Hampton’s ‘Les Liaisons Dangereuses’.

She played regular roles in Harold Pinter’s plays in 1988. She spoke the android TC-14 in’ Star Wars: Episode I–The Phantom Menace’ (1999) and appeared in a revival of Noël Coward’s’ Private Lives’ (2001–02). She appeared in Alan Bleasdale’s’ The Sinking of the Laconia’ after a 10-year television break, aired in January 2011. She also appeared in the first epi of “The National Anthem”

She was featured in 2012 in’ Hay Fever’ by Noël Coward and in BBC2 productions by Shakespeare. In the 2014 movie’ Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)’ she appeared. She appeared in a drama movie called’ Gifted’ (2017), where she portrayed Evelyn’s role. She is set to appear in a drama film called’ Blackbird’ at the beginning of 2019.
