Florence (FJ) and Millie Graham welcomed Lindsey Olin Graham into the world on July 9th, 1955 at Central in Pickens County, South Carolina.
In this small town, his parents owned and operated a restaurant, bar, liquor shop, and pool hall.
To assist with family financial difficulties, Lindsey began racking tables at the basement pool club when she was twelve years old.
Later, the family relocated to a trailer from the small space behind their shop.
His mother passed away from Hodgkin’s illness in 1976, and his father suffered a deadly heart attack not long after. He was a senior at the University of South Carolina at the time (he would become the first member of his family to graduate from college).
He observed that his younger sister Darline was living with an unmarried uncle and aunt in the adjacent Seneca after his parents passed away.
Lindsey joined the Air Force’s Judge Advocate General staff in 1981 after earning his law degree from the University of South Carolina.
He worked as a prosecutor and defence lawyer in Europe for four years during that time. As a young bachelor swinging his way through Paris and Rome, he remembered his Air Force stint as being a lot of fun.
He went back to his quieter life as a small-town trial lawyer in Seneca, South Carolina, near the cotton mills.
He was a Republican who was chosen to represent South Carolina in the US Congress in 1994 and was elected to that position in 2003.
After Donald Trump won the 2016 Presidential election, he became a buddy and adviser to him.
He did not join the Trump supporters in calling for the election results to be overturned, though, when Trump lost in 2020.
