Lisandro Martnez, an Argentine professional footballer born on January 18, 1998, mostly plays as a center-back for Premier League side Manchester United and the Argentina national team.
Martinez began his career at Newell’s Old Boys before being hired by Defensa y Justicia in 2017 on a short-term loan. He joined Ajax in 2019, and over the course of three seasons, he made 120 appearances, taking home two Eredivisie titles and one KNVB Cup. He won Ajax Player of the Year honors for the 2021–22 campaign.
Martnez performed for Argentina at the under-20 and under-23 levels prior to his March 2019 senior international debut. He played for Argentina’s championship teams in the Copa América of 2021 and the Finalissima of 2022.
On July 16, 2022, news broke that Manchester United and Ajax have reached a signing agreement for Martnez. Martnez’s five-year contract with the team on July 27 marked the official closing of the deal. His transfer fee reportedly cost between £47 million and £49 million with an additional £8.5 million.
