Her hubby Johan passed away in January 2021. She presided over the Standing Committee on Education from 2019 to 2022. 2016 saw the appointment of Lorraine Botha as chair of the permanent committee for social and health development. Following his reelection in May 2019, Botha took over as chair of the standing committee on education.
On May 12, 2022, Botha was selected to take over as the DA caucus’ new chief whip in the provincial legislature. After being selected for the Provincial Cabinet, Botha succeeded Mireille Wenger.
