Alcott was the second of four daughters born to Abigail May Alcott, a social worker, and Amos Bronson Alcott, a transcendentalist thinker and educator.

Early on in her career, Alcott started writing, and she published many works, including the “Little Men” and “Jo’s Boys” successors to “Little Women.” Alcott was a nurse during the American Civil War and an abolitionist in addition to being a writer. At the age of 55, she died on March 6th, 1888.
