Luis Quinones appeared to be seriously hurt in the eighth round of the fight, having been defeated by Jose Munoz in the seventh round via knockout.
He was knocked to the ground, which put a stop to the fight.

Quinones was subsequently sent to the North General Clinic in Barranquilla, where he had surgery due to brain injuries, including a subdural hematoma, that was discovered by medical specialists.

After many days in a coma, the 25-year-old boxer was pronounced brain-dead on September 29.
