Cawthorne was born on August 1, 1995, in Asheville, North Carolina, the U.S. He construes himself as a Christian and constitutional conservative. He wedded Cristina Bayardelle in 2020 and got separated in 2021.
U.S. Representative Mark Meadows chose Cawthorn for the United States Naval Academy in 2014, but his application was rejected before his 2014 car accident.

On Wednesday, the opposing group that is vigorously campaigning against Rep. Madison Cawthorn has disclosed a video clip revealing the North Carolina Republican naked in bed and, as interpreted by Cawthorn, “being crass with a friend” and “acting foolish.”
Subsequently, as the tape appeared on social media, Cawthorn tweeted from his verified social media account(@CawthornforNC), “A new hit against me just dropped. Years ago, in this video, I was being crass with a friend, trying to be funny. We were acting foolish and joking.
“That’s it. I’m NOT backing down. I told you there would be a drip campaign. Blackmail won’t win. We will.” Americans, “This video is just stupid locker room talk between two cousins that grew up like brothers”.
Muckrakers PAC, a political association that is reported to run the ‘Fire Madison Cawthorn’ website was the first to broadcast the video. The approximately 30-second long video shows a naked Cawthon shoving his pelvis against someone while the person laughs.
This is the latest animosity against the 26-year-old, who is running for reelection in North Carolina’s 13th congressional district with early voting already underway, The primary will be held on May 17.
