Mandy Patinkin, an American actor and singer, is best recognized for his work in musical theater, television, and film. He was born on November 30, 1952.
Patinkin, who is of Russian and Polish origin, was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Doris Sinton, a homemaker, and Lester Patinkin, the chairman of the People’s Iron & Metal Company and the Scrap Corporation of America.
His mother authored The Jewish Family Cookbook by Grandma Doralee Patinkin. Patinkin is related to novelist Mark Patinkin, a nationally syndicated columnist for The Providence Journal, and Jason Patinkin, head of Columbia University’s EarthCo. One of his other relatives is Sheldon Patinkin, who founded The Second City and is the head of the theatrical program at Columbia College Chicago.
At the University of Kansas, the Juilliard School of Drama, Kenwood Academy, and South Shore High School, he finished his schooling. Together with Kelsey Grammer, they were classmates at Juilliard. Patinkin was the one who suggested Grammer to the Cheers producers while they were interviewing actors for the part of Dr. Frasier Crane.
