His passion for football grew as he grew older, and he found himself enrolled in Gesamtschule Berger Fled, just like his idol and fellow footballer, Mesut Ozil. Manuel began his international career in the big leagues in 2009, when he was named to the national team for the Asian tour. Manuel became Germany’s goalkeeper in the 2010 World Cup and played generally well, saving many difficult goals for his team. In the 2012 Euro Cup, Manuel was a member of the team and played a major role in his team securing 10 out of 10 victories in the group stage.
