After brandishing a weapon while officers were serving an arrest warrant, Mark Capps, a Grammy-winning recording engineer with long ties to the Nashville music scene, was shot and killed on Thursday by a SWAT team. He was 54.
Nashville police say Capps was wanted on counts of aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping based on charges filed by his wife and adult stepdaughter earlier in the day, as reported by CBS affiliate NewsChannel 5 in Nashville. The complaint states that Capps had made a gun threat to them both around 3:00 a.m. local time and continued to do so until he fell asleep shortly after sunrise.
The two left the house at that time and went to the police, who issued warrants for their arrest on Thursday afternoon. Don Aaron, a spokesperson for the police, told the media that he “came to the door with a gun in hand” when SWAT officers arrived at his residence. A video camera was located at the front door, according to the police.
