Manning began focusing on his throwing in his sophomore year. By his senior year, when he had a 1.91 earned run average (ERA), 77 strikeouts, and 40 plus three innings thrown, his fastball could reach speeds of 99 mph (159 kph). He was selected by the Tigers in the first round of the 2016 MLB draft, and he made his MLB debut in 2021.
Manning was chosen by the Detroit Tigers as the ninth overall pick in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. Instead of enrolling in college, Manning signed with the Tigers and received a $3,505,800 signing bonus.
