Matthew Kenneth Rhule (born January 31, 1975) is an American football coach and former player who most recently served as the head coach of the National Football League (NFL) Carolina Panthers from 2020 to 2022.

Rhule previously served as head coach at Baylor University and Temple University. Rhule was hired by Albright College to coach the linebackers after his playing career came to an end.

Before being hired at Temple as a defensive line coach in 2006, Rhule had stopped at Buffalo, UCLA, and Western Carolina after one year at Albright. Before becoming Temple’s offensive coordinator in 2008, Rhule switched to coaching quarterbacks in 2007.

Rhule extended his contract with Temple for four years in July 2015, taking him all the way to the 2021 campaign. This agreement was revised in order to keep Rhule at the university following his outstanding third season with the Owls. Syracuse and Mizzou were after him, but Rhule decided to stay at Temple.

Rhule defeated his alma mater Penn State 27-10 on September 5, 2015, in front of 69,741 spectators, marking the Owls’ first victory over the Nittany Lions since 1941.
