Matthew Kenneth Rhule, an American football coach, and a former player was most recently the head coach of the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL) from 2020 to 2022.

Rhule was born on January 31, 1975. At Baylor University and Temple University, he previously served as the head coach.
Rhule was born and raised in New York City, and when he was a teenager, his family relocated to State College, Pennsylvania. Prior to transferring to Penn State as a linebacker, Rhule played linebacker at State College Area High School. Rhule spent four years at Penn State playing for Joe Paterno. He was a three-time Penn State Scholar-Athlete and was recognized in 1997 as Academic All-Big Ten. Rhule graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. In 2003, he graduated with a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Buffalo.

Rhule led the Panthers to their first victory of the 2021 NFL season, a 19-14 win over the New York Jets on September 12, 2021. The Panthers began the season 3-0 but concluded with a disastrous 5-12 record. After going 10-23 in his first two seasons as head coach in Carolina, fans, the media, and former Panthers players began to doubt his position. Panthers owner David Tepper was adamant that Rhule was setting the groundwork for the future.

Rhule was sacked as head coach on October 10, 2022, following a 37-15 defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, which dropped the club to 1-4. He finished with an 11-27 record in two and a half seasons.
