Matt Rhule is in his third season as Baylor’s head coach in 2019. Rhule was named the Chuck Neinas Coach of the Year by his peers after leading the Bears to 11 wins, a No. 7 national ranking, and their first Big 12 Championship appearance. In addition, Rhule led Baylor to its second-ever Sugar Bowl appearance and the 25th bowl berth in program history. Under his direction, the Bears became the first Power 5 program to go from 11 losses to 11 wins in two seasons.

James Lynch was named 2019 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and Defensive Lineman of the Year, and Lynch, Denzel Mims, and Bravvion Roy were named first team All-Big 12. Baylor had 16 players named all-conference. Rhule led the Bears to a 45-38 Texas Bowl victory over Vanderbilt, as well as seven total victories, a six-win improvement over his first season. Rhule is only the second coach in program history to go to a bowl game in two of his first three seasons, joining John Bridgers (1960-61).

Matt’s parents are Gloria and Dennis Rhule. Matt was raised in New York City before his family relocated to State College, Pennsylvania as teenager. Julie Rhule, Matt Rhule’s wife, has been in the spotlight since their relationship began.
