Matt Zimmerman was born in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He began acting as a teenager and went on to Bowling Green State University, where he majored in telecommunications.
He received a scholarship and moved to the United Kingdom to study theater at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
