With her sights set on the course record of 2:25.59 that was set by Katharina Steinruck of Germany in 2021, Chepkemoi grabbed control of the race at the 30km mark, leaving the leading group of Alemtsehay Asefa of Ethiopia and her colleague Caroline Jepchirchir behind.
With two kilometers left, the 2021 Geneva Marathon winner picked up the pace and ran a new course record time of 2:21.10, breaking the previous mark by more than four minutes.
Asefa, who crossed the finish line more than three minutes later with a time of 2:24.42, followed Chepkemoi closely, while Jepchirchir came in third with a time of 2:26.11.
With timings of 2:26.43 and 2:28.00, Ethiopian competitors Aberash Feyesa and Naomi Jebet placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
