Maury Wills was born in Washington, District of Columbia, USA on October 2, 1932.Maury Wills was a star quarterback and pitcher for Cardozo High School in Washington, D.C., and was signed to a contract by the National League Brooklyn (later Los Angeles) Dodgers in 1950. He batted and threw both right-handed and left-handed. He played second base for their minor league clubs (1951-59) before being called up to the parent club in 1959, where he played shortstop until he was moved to the Pittsburgh Pirates (1967-68) and drafted in the league’s expansion by the Montreal Expos (1969). In that same year, he was sent back to the Dodgers, where he remained until his retirement in 1972.

In 1962, Maury Wills was named National League MVP after appearing in all 165 games and leading the league in at bats (695), triples (10), stolen bases (104) and singles (104). (179).
