Francella had her high school education at Holy Child in Rye, New York. She further studied at the University of Memphis, where she earned the title of Conference USA Freshman of the year in 2001, she later took a transfer to the University of North Carolina for her junior year.
While she was still in North Carolina she was the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference, individual champion and in 2004 she became an NCAA first-team All-American.
In 2005, Francella graduated with a degree in communications.
