The Mercedes Losoya case has new updates as the police have arrested parents Katrina Mendoza and Jose Ruiz regarding abuse before the child’s death.

The victim’s mother, Katrina, is 22 years of age, and her boyfriend, Jose Ruiz, is 25 years old. The couple has been charged with one count of damage to a child inflicting bodily injury in the death of Mercedes Losoya.

Mendoza has allegedly accused Ruiz of subjecting Mercedes to horrible mistreatment in the three weeks since Mercedes and her daughter had moved into his home.

The mother told police that she saw Ruiz “shovel dog feces and urine-soaked sock into the victim’s mouth.” The Daily Beast reported that Ruiz yanked the sock from Mercedes’ mouth with force that two of her teeth had come out.

Mendoza allegedly continued to make frightening charges of physical abuse and corporal punishment, including hitting the child in the face with closed fists while wearing many rings.

The police have claimed that Mercedes Losoya, the child victim, suffered from extreme physical abuse before her death.

A copy of the probable cause affidavit stated that Mendoza brought an unresponsive Mercedes to Southwest General Hospital in San Antonio for treatment on February 7.

The doctors pronounced that Mercedes was dead immediately after arriving at the hospital despite their efforts. The medical team informed authorities following the unusual nature of her wounds. The reports claimed that she had “obvious injuries.”

Mercedes exhibited considerable hair loss that appeared to have been pulled from her scalp. She reportedly suffered bruises, scratches, wounds, and swelling on every visible part of her body.

According to investigators, she had cuts and swelling on both hands that appeared to be defensive wounds.
