Merlin Olsen was a very tough dude to beat at the back when he gets into the groove of things and is little wonder; he is regarded as one of the best back-liners in the history of the National Football League (NFL).

Merlin ‘Jay’ Olsen was born on the 15th of September 1940 in Utah (Logan) in the United States to his parents, Merle Barrus and Lynn Jay Olsen. His Dad was a professor at the University of Utah and theirs was a big family as Merlin had Eight other siblings but was the first male son of the couple who was known for their warm gestures in the entire neighborhood.

He played for an amazing 15 seasons with Los Angeles Rams before making the leap into acting and would eventually star in his own movie ‘Father Murphy’.

Until his death, he was married to Susan Wakley and the couple had three kids together.

Merlin Olsen’s cause of death

On the 11th of March in 2010, he passed away in California after he had been battling cancer since 2009 when he was first diagnosed with Peritoneal mesothelioma.
