In 2021, Michael Storer, as he is more generally referred to, competed in the Giro for the first time. While riding in support of Romain Bardet, who came in seventh overall, he attempted to place 31st.
Storer received praise after winning stage 7 of the 2021 Vuelta an Espaa, the first grand tour stage of his professional career.
After that, on stage 10, he won once again. As a result, he joined Michael Matthews as the only other Australian to have won multiple stages of the Vuelta.
