Mills Lane, an American boxing referee, was born on November 12, 1937, and he also competed in fights. Lane was born in Savannah, Georgia. He was descended from a prominent family in Georgia. His namesake and uncle served as president of Citizens and Southern National Bank. His grandpa founded Georgia’s largest bank.

Lane attended Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts. Lane played linebacker in American football and ice hockey for Middlesex School. Lane enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno. Lane graduated with a business degree in 1963. Lane joined the US Marine Corps in 1956 and was discharged with honours in 1959.

Lane was well-known on television and spent two terms as a district court judge in Washoe County, Nevada. While serving in the Marine Corps, Lane took up boxing and went on to win the All-Far East welterweight title. Lane earned his law degree from the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1970. He became a Nevada bar member. In 1982, Lane was appointed district attorney. In 1990, he was made a district judge.
