Wasim began playing tape-ball cricket in his homeland of North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he was raised in a Pashtun family.

Mohammad Wasim relocated to Peshawar, the provincial capital, where he joined a cricket club due to the lack of facilities. He advanced through the district and regional levels before playing for Pakistan’s U-19 team.

Wasim was chosen for the Pakistani team competing in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2020. On November 26, 2020, he made his first-class debut for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

In March 2021, Mohammad Wasim was selected as part of Pakistan’s limited-overs squads for their tours of South Africa and Zimbabwe. He made his T20 International (T20I) debut against the West Indies on July 28, 2021, where he claimed the wicket of Chris Gayle.
