Mulayam Yadav was chosen to serve in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1967, and for the first time as a State Minister in 1977. In 1980, he was elected Lok Dal President. From 1982 to 1985, he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. He first assumed the position of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1989.
Mulayam Yadav held a number of degrees, including a B.A., B.T., and M.A. in Political Science. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia’s socialist ideas and philosophy had an impact on and motivated him.
