His net worth was projected to be $4.4 billion in April 2022. Murthy began his career as a research associate under a faculty member at IIM Ahmedabad before becoming the principal systems programmer.
Murthy built and implemented a BASIC interpreter for Electronics Corporation of India Limited while working on India’s first time-sharing computer system. Murthy founded the firm Softronics. When that company went bankrupt after roughly a year and a half, he went to work for Patni Computer Systems in Pune.
Murthy claims that being imprisoned and expelled for no reason during the communist era of 1974 in a border village between the Yugoslav-Bulgarian border transformed him from a “confused leftist/communist” to the founder of Infosys.
Murthy and his six software professionals launched Infosys in 1981 with a Rs 10,000 investment donated by his wife Sudha Murthy.
