In the end, Nelson Piquet, as he is more well known, won the Formula Vee championship in 1976 and served as Brazil’s national karting champion in 1971–1972.
After receiving advice from Emerson Fittipaldi, Piquet travelled to Europe to continue his success, setting a record for victories in Formula Three that year.
A three-time World Champion, the former race car driver broke Jackie Stewart’s all-time record.
He later departed from the sport, although he continues to be listed in surveys as one of the greatest Formula One drivers.
