After his body was discovered buried in their Northamptonshire backyard, a primary school teacher was arrested and charged with killing her partner. The trial is scheduled to begin later this year.

The 48-year-old Fiona Beal is accused of killing her long-time partner Nick Billingham somewhere between October 30 and November 10 of last year. She made an appearance on Friday at Northampton Crown Court, where a preliminary trial date of September 12 of this year was set pending her entering a plea.

After days of digging by cadaver dogs, expert search teams, and forensic officers, a corpse was discovered in the backyard. Beal had been taken into custody at a hotel in Cumbria just three days prior.

Before her imprisonment, Beal was employed by Eastfield Academy in Northampton as a teacher in a year six class.

Nicholas Billingham’s cause of death

Nearly five months after his passing, Nicholas Billingham the builder, 42, was discovered in their Northampton home’s yard in March. Days before Beal was apprehended and charged with murder in a hotel 200 miles away in Cumbria.

Mr Billingham died as a result of multiple stabbings in the neck. The police had to confirm based on the wounds on his neck.
