The 95-year-old Australian Test cricketer Norma Johnston has passed away. Johnston also known as Norma Whiteman, a middle-order batsman and medium-pace bowler, participated in seven Test matches between 1948 and 1951. Johnston was the oldest Australian Test cricketer still playing when she passed away.

Nick Hockley, CEO of Cricket Australia, stated that “everyone across Australian Cricket will be saddened to hear of Norma’s passing.” In addition to making a great contribution as a player, Norma was a pioneer who helped lay the groundwork for the tens of thousands of women and girls who are currently playing the game. Johnston made her debut in 1948 on a tour of New Zealand with the illustrious Betty Wilson, and she called it quits after the 1951 tour of England.

In January 2023, Whiteman passed away at the age of 95. She was Australia’s oldest living Test cricketer at the time of her passing.
