Ocean ruins were added to the game in Java Edition v1.13 and they are built from stone bricks, polished granite, and cobblestone. They will generate on ocean floors and sometimes even on the beach.

How are Ocean Ruins generated?

There are two variants of ocean ruins: warm and cold. The cold ocean ruins are generated in normal, cold, and frozen ocean biomes along with their deep variants, and are made of stone materials. Warm ocean ruins are generated in warm, lukewarm, and deep lukewarm ocean biomes. They are made primarily of sandstone and stone materials.

About 30% of ocean ruins that are generated are large ocean ruins while the other 70% are small ocean ruins. The chances of multiple (4-8) small ocean ruins being generated in clusters are 90%. Warm large ocean ruins have the structural integrity of 0.9 and the small ones have an integrity of 0.8.

The Layout of Ocean Ruins

Ocean ruins come in a variety of shapes and sizes and they are often generated in clusters that form ruined villages. Chests with loot inside are generated specifically for either small or large ruins; these chests might be buried in materials such as sand or gravel.

Cold ocean ruins are made of stone bricks, gravel, prismarine, sand, bricks, planks, cobblestone, obsidian, sea lanterns, polished granite, and/or a chest.

Warm ocean ruins are primarily made from sand, sandstone, polished granite, polished diorite, sea lanterns, magma blocks, gravel, terracotta, and/or a loot chest. A lot of times, drowned will also spawn with the structures in groups of 3 or 4.
