Old Growth Taiga is an uncommon biome found in the Overworld. They are characterized by their tall spruce trees and cold forests. The Old Growth Pine Taiga is a subcategory of this biome.

Old growth biomes get their name from their trees which are older and larger than the standard trees found in the overworld. Much as the normal taiga can be considered a colder counterpart of the forest biome, the old growth taigas can be considered a colder counterpart of the jungle biome.

Description

Old Growth Pine Taiga has terrain similar to Old Growth Taiga with its coarse dirt and podzol blocks. The spruce trees are larger than the average trees and are arrow shaped. They usually have leaves at the top, often shaped like an arrow. The trees are large and closely packed together, but not dense enough to obstruct sunlight and spawn hostile mobs during the day. Much of the grass blocks are replaced by large swaths of podzol and coarse dirt. As the climate here is cold, rainfall changes to snowfall above layer 200.

Mobs

Old Growth Pine Taiga has the usual passive mobs of glow squid, sheep, pigs, chickens, cows, wolves, rabbits and foxes. All the foxes found are red foxes, and almost half of the rabbits are brown. The hostile mobs seen here are witches, spiders, endermen, zombies, zombie villagers, creepers and jockeys. Bats are found in cave-like structures formed (if any).

Conclusion

There are old trees in this biome, meaning they’re larger and more difficult to cut down than regular trees. However, these large trees offer plenty of house-building resources for players who manage to cut them down. Old growth taigas are slightly more difficult for survival than regular taigas for this reason.
