African music legend and reggae king Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly called Majek Fashek, is dead.

Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly called Majek Fashek has been confirmed dead, The Nation reports.

His death was confirmed by his manager Omenka Uzoma, on the late singer’s official Instagram page.

Omenka Uzoma said:

“Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker.”

“Let celebrate him, his achievements, and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified.”

Until his death, he was one of Nigeria’s surviving Reggae music legends, Majek attracted international attention in 1987, with his self-penned tune, ‘Send down the Rain.’

He was the first African artist to be signed to Interscope Records in 1990 ($20 million deal). He performed on the Late Nite Show With David Letterman in 1992.

Bob Marley’s wife, Rita once gifted him $100,000.
