Oscar Pistorius, a sprinter from South Africa known as the Blade Runner, was born on November 22, 1986, in Johannesburg. During Oscar’s birth, he had both of his legs amputated when he was a baby yet continued to be very active in athletics. At the age of 16, he started jogging, and a few months later, he won gold in the 2004 Paralympics in Athens. Before becoming the first amputee to run in track events at the Olympics in 2012, Pistorius began competing against competitors with normal limbs. Pistorius was detained the next year after killing Reeva Steenkamp at his house.
In order to assist South Africa to qualify for the 4x400m relay at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, Pistorius runs the opening 400 m.
