He was an industrialist and a member of the Nazi Party who is credited with saving the lives of 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust by employing them in his enamelware and ammunition factories in occupied Poland and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia.

He worked in many trades until he joined the Abwehr, the military intelligence service of Nazi Germany in 1936.

He also joined the Nazi Party in 1939.

Schindler died on October 9, 1974, at age 66, at Hildesheim, Lower Saxony, West Germany.

Oskar Schindler got married to Emilie Pelzl on 6 March 1928. Emilie was the daughter of a prosperous Sudeten German farmer from Maletein.

Emilie was a Sudeten German-born woman born on October 22, 1907, in Moravia, Austria-Hungary.

She is best known for her humanitarian work. She with her husband Oskar Schindler helped save 1,200 Jews during World War II by employing.

Emilie died at the age of 93 from the effects of strokes at Markisch-Oderland Hospital at Strausberg on 5 October 2001.
